    Moose behind tree

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     During an annual trip with his wife in Basswood Lake, Minnesota, which is a mile south of the Canadian border, Borealguy ran into a moose. He says he was 25 yards away from the moose and that the trees were obscuring the animal. "I never go into the woods with the expectation I will see wildlife. To me, it is a gift,” he said. "I’ve been even closer to a moose, but that is not wise, especially during the fall rut, or mating season. This was the perfect distance."

Boundary Waters Canoe Area, Minnesota. We had been treated for 5 nights of watching beavers, 2 nights of the aurora borealis, and one night of hearing wolves nearby. I had said to myself earlier that day, "the only thing we haven't seen is a moose." Two hours later, I heard some crashing back in the woods, and a bull moose appeared, walked down the shore then back into the woods, as if we weren't even there.
