Fall Is Pecan Season in Texas - My Favorite Time of Year!

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     photogirl777 loves the 'treasure hunt' each fall looking for pecans. She has loved doing this since she was a young girl.
    - hhanks, CNN iReport producer

In Texas, Fall brings manna from heaven. The state tree, The Pecan Tree, drops pounds and pounds of delicious treasures from their branches! My favorite thing to do is "Look Up " this time of year, looking for pecan trees everywhere I go.

I can recognize a pecan tree several blocks away. I drive up, get out and walk underneath, searching for pecans, to gather and shell for delectable goodies to bake!

I am like a wild woman when I see the pecans beginning to fall. Every spare moment, I am driving around, looking for trees in public places, sidewalks, alleys...where the pecans are free to gather.

I was out at 6:30 a.m. the other morning, bending over and over to pick up one more treasure!

Texans LOVE pecan pie, and I am no exception!

I spend hour and hours shelling the pecans, and then surprise my friends and family with pies, tarts and candy!

I am so happy to live in Texas, where pecan trees are everywhere, and if I am lucky, I find the little brown, speckled "eggs" there for the taking!

You can see why Fall is my favorite time of year!!
