    Fall Planting Texas Bluebonnets

Today I sowed two packages of seeds of the Texas state flower, the bluebonnet, in my back yard rock garden.

I bought the seeds in Ennis, Texas, at their annual Bluegrass Festival. I want to make this iReport, to document my journey to one of the prettiest flowers on Earth.

The seeds are to be sown in the Fall, and have to stay in the ground over the winter months, (like hibernate) and when Spring arrives, they will "hopefully" come up. I will make another iReport next April, 2015, showing the results of today's planting.

The technique of planting is to loosen the topsoil, and just toss the seeds onto the dirt, and cover lightly with a thin layer of soil.

Photo 1 shows a close up of the bluebonnet seeds upon the soil.

Photo 2 shows the front of the Bluebonnet seed packet.

Photo 3 shows the back of the Bluebonnet seed packet.

Photo 4 shows the rock garden.

Photo 5 shows the rock garden, with the top soil spread over the seeds.

Photo 6 shows one bluebonnet that came up last April.

Come back next April to see if these seeds actually sprout into beautiful bluebonnets!!
