Torrance lights up for Christmas
In a tradition that goes back to 1985, residents of the Sleepy Hollow area of South Torrance in Southern California have once again transformed many blocks of ranch style homes into a Christmas wonderland known locally as Candy Cane Lane.
I have been submitting articles about Candy Cane Lane to CNN's iReport since 2010 and have been viewing the lights pretty much since they started and the neighborhood participation just seems to grow each year, expanding its reach to new neighborhoods.
As we walked and drove around it seemed that many of the same displays are put up every year, so this time I concentrated on some of the streets on the outskirts of the Sleepy Hollow area.
Since this year's Grand Marshal of the Tournament of Roses Parade is hometown hero Louis Zamperini, and the movie of his life, Unbroken, premieres on Christmas Day I was also looking for some displays that might pay some type of homage to the recently deceased Zamperini, I was unsuccessful. Not to worry, I will be heading to Fiesta Floats this weekend to photograph the building of the Torrance entry which is unmistakably dedicated to Zamperini's memory.
