Oregon River Flood Leaves Logs and Stumps

Heavy rains on December 21 and 22, 2014 caused the Siuslaw River to jump the banks in Mapleton, Oregon.

A nearby riverside park shows where the recent flood and other floods left logs, stumps and other debris.

I spoke to a local from Mapleton who said she and her family took everything out of the basement and put it on the porch roof.  They moved their vehicles to another location on higher ground.

Locals who live next to the river simply used their fishing boats to navigate the flooded streets.

The Suislaw River levels vary with the ocean tides.  Heavy rains are sometimes combined with a high tide.  When the tide goes down again the flood waters can recede.

Roads near the river that were not under too much water were passable again after the tide went down.
