Top 10 Discoveries of Being Engaged in Virtual Social Media and Social Networking
1. Person to Person conversations are so Yesterday
I am easily communicating with at least 10 to 100 people in an hour. If my math is correct., I can be engaged with at least 600 people on an average day of my online activity. Depending on my scripts I can easily share a 100 word to a grand exegesis of more than a 1000 words as my mental flow dictates.
Instead of conversations that take the energy of time, may or may not be constructive, it depends on whether it is the family or the office or the friend, I can script a post to say my thoughts, themes, ideas, philosophies, discussion, and disregard the arguments in nano seconds of typing.
2. Technology is more entertaining than it is boring
For a gregarious introvert, the oxymoron of personalities, I am more fluid in my virtual communications.
The years' highlights are not classified to a library of confidential and private shelving. The absorption of one's insular experiences is no longer a reflection of the larger perspective. Open communication shared with others is a daily exercise of new and informational exposure.
In the affront of having a public virtual reality, there is the contentious foray of multiplicities of personalities. The participants in social media activity compete for the attention of their most liked commentaries. It is very engaging to see the personality types exposed by the candor of their reflections. People display their political persuasions, their religious enthusiasm, or their atheism. There are the stereotypes, the misinterpreted, the bigots and the zealots.
3. Maintain neutrality or don't feel the mandate to pontificate
The public exercise of virtual freedom is not a space for open warfare. In the fractured schematic of the virtual world, the hierarchical communication modalities are juxtaposed in the dictator and spectator, the communicator and relator, the orator and berator, the expose and the narrated, the truth and the fiction, the traveled and the traversed, the philosophical and the unsophisticated personality types.
While it is so easy to be swooned into a rhetoric of passion, the more social intelligence and learning are gleaned from artfully allowing the medium of exploratory conversation to be expressed and experientially embraced.
4. Viral is relative
Stars and media thrive on viral excess. To have star power and become a brand like the Kardashians, any and everything that can arouse twitter and reaction are viral worthy. Kim Kardashian poses with her butt implants for a cover shoot. It is newsworthy. Nicki Minaj and the Anaconda salacious video antics are viral material. The less clothes worn by Rihanna and Miley Cyrus for public events, that's viral value. This is news, viral and epidemic
Viral news become headline news. First a plane goes missing and is never found. With weeks of coverage, the public is over saturated with the news and the findings. The ReturnOurGirls hashtag becomes the viral slogan for the missing African girls, until our palettes are dulled.
Ebola outbreaks consume the media and instill fears of disease worldwide.
Trinidad and Tobago national fete Carnival 2015 may be stopped.. because Ebola news is currently trending and viral.
Viral is momentary. The stars get their fame and until their next spectacle event is publicly posted, their viral fortune continues to expand.
Where is the missing plane that disappeared, where are all the hashtags for #BringBackOurGirls, or when the Israeli Gaza crisis was at peak, viral world sensitization hashtags #JewsandArabsRefusetoBeEnemies?
For its momentary duration, the stories were the news, which soon dissipated because a new viral topic took precedence.
So, be thankful when you are less viral than more.
5. The economy of virtual spending
Although being victim to online shopping nightmares, like doing business with Rosewe.com is a peril of online trade, I have spent less and gained more with virtual shopping.
Thumbs down!!! to Rosewe.com. This online merchandiser claims to offer designer fashion and merchandise at the below, wayyy below market prices.. The cliche:
"You pay for what you get is real".
Pay heed to online reviews for the online shopping enthusiasts..
All my Christmas shopping was completed online. There were the discounts, the coupons and best of all the selections at my finger tips. One of the best purchases was the Overstock.com Barbie Doll Dream house.
The labor of love for my granddaughter Raylynn by her Dad to put this together Christmas day was beyond priceless. But the joy for Raylynn and her look of complete bliss, are beyond words or money.
6. Isolation and Introspection are not because of loneliness
In 2015 the motivation to enjoy the token things that are taken for granted is my zeal and optimism.
The choice to experience a rich virtual education does not diminish the absence of human encounter.
While the absence of communal and interpersonal connection is a subjective reality, the scope of things that occur through others, their lives, their hurts, their disappointments is very objective. To see through someone elses pain does evoke a better understanding of empathy.
When the families who share loss of a child from cancer, or someone posts how they have overcome their loss, or there is a story of a transgendered youth, Leelah Alcorn's plea for compassion before committing suicide, or a double amputee Amy Purdy who surmounts the odds and shows the world how to win, there is introspection.
When social media posts share the nostalgia of homelands far away, there is connection. In the misery of all that seems trivial, when you are uplifted with a kind affirmation, the essence of harmony of lives becomes more evident.
7. Sharing is Caring
In the virtual world of my social engagement I am a repeat sharer. I've learnt that people want to feel connected. Sharing pictures, and posting about common interests introduce people to one another.
As I gain valuable insights into products, such as apps that can cross post my shares to various social sites, or apps that make my pictures into gifs, or create videos with themes and special effects, I am also becoming better abled to share my skills, expertise and talents to more audiences.
In a business post online, and shared through LinkedIn, I caught the attention of my present employer.
8. Virtual Optimization is Visibility
Online exploration of vacation destinations has excited my travel curiosity. The pictures to world destinations with sun, sand and beach are my most favored posts. My hashtag #LifeisaBeach is my virtual tour posts of destinations to visit.
#Ihopeyoudance is a favorite post that I regularly share. With many dancing styles, the line dancing with the over 55+ to the newest hip hop movements with ages ranging from 5 to 95 are my zest potions to share with all.
#Familying with immediate members of family, with friends and those who are no longer strangers are the bonding connections that are continued in my posts of shared and common interests,
9. Virtual is the new Actual
For me, on Jan 1 2015, I am entertained, refreshed and rejuvenated as a social media renegade. The need for self expression is satiated through this form of expression. I have and will continue to investigate, discover and find intimate connection through the medium of social connectivity.
Being socially engaged is not just a virtual experience in social media, it is my highway to the world or people, places things to do and things to see.
Virtual is the new Actual
10. Be authentic and Just be You
People who are engaged are individual and unique and esoteric and normal in their day to day lives and activities.
For those who are uncomfortable with radical issues, doctrines, ideologies or dispositions, social media will be a dubious challenge
