    Spreading the wealth around?

Now I know that I am young and I am new at this whole politics thing, so I have a question about this whole spreading the wealth around. (It's more a series of questions.)

Obama wants to "spread the wealth around" according to the Mccain campaign by raising taxes on those who make a lot of money and lowering taxes on those who don't make a lot of money.  Let's assume that the people who make less money need more money to pay for their children to go to school, to make sure they can eat healthy, and so they are not bankrupted by medical bills or an unavoidable expense.

Couldn't this have been solved by paying workers a decent living wage to begin with so the government doesn't need to supplement their income?

Instead of the rich and the heads of companies complaining that they have to pay all these high taxes, why don't they pay more money to their workers so they can support themselves?  I would think this would lead to workers doing better work and having more company pride and loyalty.  The average worker could then be more self sufficient and not need to rely on government programs for support.

I know I would rather get paid more money at my job then get a tax credit from the government.

Is there a way a bill could pass that would require CEO's to pay their lowest paid employee a minimum percentage of what they pay themselves?  Instead of CEOs making 200+ times what their lowest paid employee makes, maybe we could cut that in half.  CEOs make a little less and the workers make more.   THe CEOs dont have to pay more taxes, but the workers don't need the government programs that the taxes go into.

Why can't something like this happen?
