Withdrawal of Heavy Artillery is started by Ukraine

According to the defense ministry of Ukraine, their forces have started withdrawal of heavy artillery from frontline in the east, which is the main concern behind Minsk’s peace talk agreement.

The withdrawal of heavy weapons is being monitored by foreign observers, and is said to be the first step towards ceasefire involving pull out of 100mm caliber artillery. Pro Russian rebels had earlier issued a statement claiming that they had started the withdrawal which was not verified by monitors.

As per the agreement carried in recent days at Minsk, it was decided that both the parties will act over the ceasefire agreement from 15th February. Despite of the agreement, the Russian rebels breached the accord and have seized the area of key railway hub in Debaltseve recently.

According to an estimated figure by UN, the ongoing Ukraine crisis has taken the life of almost 5,800 people. However, many believe that real figures will be much higher than this.
According to sources, the Ukrainian military decided to pull out their weapons from front line after they found that their forces had not suffered any fatalities in a period of 48 hours.

On the other hand the separatist rebels said that they are pulling their weapons since last several days and the whole process of pull out is being observed by the neutral parties belonging to Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE).

After watching both the parties acting upon the Minsk agreement, several analysts believe that at present the process of withdrawal of weaponry from the front line seems to be a positive sign of peace.

As per the term agreed by the Russian separatist and Ukrainian government, both the parties are supposed to withdraw their weapons forming a buffer zone at least 30 miles (50km).
