    Trekker Since Birth

I have been a Trekker since birth.

Leonard Nimoy had been a presence in my life for over 39 years. Now he is gone. But his art, legacy and beloved character of Mr. Spock will always remain.

Born in 1975, my twin sister and I were weaned on the original "Star Trek" television show when it was in syndication. The Enterprise crew was always diverse. The vision of the future was bright.

I have fond, youthful memories of Trek characters, especially the 'Big Three' of Kirk, Spock and McCoy, and their witty banter. Leonard Nimoy was always there. Mr. Spock taught me that diversity was real; that being different was OK. Even cool.

Mr. Nimoy's prolific career comforted many. Grand Pappie would laugh and laugh at the end of the "Star Trek" episodes that Spock would raise his eyebrow.

My family would gather and attend each of the Star Trek motion pictures whenever they were released in movie theaters. "Star Trek" brought us together.
