    "Subh Holi"

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Colorful hues of magenta, yellow and blue powder flew through the air in Paramaribo, Suriname, during Friday’s celebration of Holi.
    - Jareen, CNN iReport producer

People of all ethnic backgrounds, young and old anticipate this yearly fest of colors. And why shouldn’t they? This day allows everyone to start anew, to be happy and playful, to dance and sing, to celebrate life, to forget and forgive and to be young at heart again. The throwing of colored powder and colored water symbolizes this very mindset.

Blues, yellows, magentas, greens and violets; when participating at the Hindu ‘Holi festival’, one will come to the understanding that color is one of the languages of the soul. It not only influences our mood and emotions, it sheds light on our personality, the way we express ourselves and it even tells us something about the biological attraction between humans.
Perhaps this is why the Holi fest is so mesmerizingly infectious, taking away the personal boundaries we normally exhibit, if only for a moment and gives us the freedom to be… just be..
