"Way forward to Harmony in family” - A step towards healthy society

"If we want to stop something wrong, we have to start acting on it" with this sense of indulgence a group of motivated individuals got together and started the ‘Oorja Foundation’, a foundation aimed at “Empowering community to sustain harmony, culture and equality by promoting a healthy environment”.

"Way forward to harmony in family" was a unique one of a kind event in Melbourne. With the dramatic rise in number of domestic violence issues in Australia especially in Indian community, it became utmost important for the community to represent and raise awareness about this issue so that we can work in direction of it’s prevention and care. Therefore by a very creative idea of showcasing a documentary, Oorja foundation, has tried to reveal and express the gaps in our society which fuelling up this issue abruptly.

"Brides of broken dreams" is a documentary, which is based on journey of 3 brides who under different circumstances have suffered domestic violence in Australia. This documentary has tried to depict variety of situations for victims just to bring in awareness and education.

A panel discussion was also held with experts from various fields associated to the issue in one way or another. Experts from medical, legal, police and psychology backgrounds joined us to convey various aspects of domestic violence and how it affects an individual and community. Knowledge sharing was the prime aim of event as most of the time victims don’t know where to go to find the correct services and in lack of right knowledge, issues becomes more stressful. A lot of these issues get unreported since the victims are unaware of their rights.

This event was completely based on an effort to bring people from different dimensions at one common platform where everyone contribute with views, feedbacks services and other information which leads to building in a strong connection among community groups.

The Oorja foundation aims to run these kinds of community discussions more often to help ease the rising of domestic violence and perhaps completely remove this evil from society.
