IT'S AN EVENT, NOT A FIGHT

When the fight between Floyd Mayweather and Many Pacquiao was announced, six years too late, I thought " Oh boy two old guys fighting." I thought this because it reminded me of the Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson fight. This fight is an event, nothing more and nothing less. Let's look at the particulars here so we can truly understand why.

Floyd and Manny are both past their best days. Manny has eaten the canvas and tasted defeat while Floyd has been getting touched a little more by fighters like Marcos Rene Maidana. The fact is these two guys are fighting for career high paydays because truthfully at this stage no one can really say who the best is. The best fighters are judged over time on the basis of their overall careers.

Long retired fighters such as Marvin Hagler, Sugar Ray Leonard and Muhammad Ali were judged long after their retirements. Ultimately no one can make the call as to who is better after this fight. Manny is older as is Floyd, they are not rtesting themselves at peak moments, very few fighters ever do. A prime example of past peak is Tyson and Holyfield. Tyson was a machine but he was fighting Holyfield after a four year stint in prison and four fights into a comeback where he was pounding tomato cans.

In the end chances are that Floyd will win a fairly close decision because he is fresher and has a stronger defense, still Manny could be packing a surprise. I really don't plan on spending the money because it won't be the fight it could have been six years ago.
