    UNFRIENDED MOVIE REVIEW

    UNFRIENDED MOVIE REVIEW
by, Rajiim Gross of The Rag Review
    4/16/15

In an age of cyber everything, to include cybersex, cyber bullying, social media and teen suicide...someone (screen writer Nelson Greaves) decided to roll all those ingredients into on and give us the new horror film UNFRIENDED.

Unfriended is about six high school friends / frienemies who all have one thing in common. They all know who drove Laura Barnes to commit suicide.....including Laura Barnes! Laura's ghost haunts her five frienemies on Facebook and Skype and promises them all a good time playing a cyber game that will end in someone's death. Not to mention all of the dirty secrets that suddenly hit Facebook! What better way to get your vengeance from beyond the grave.

The film is original. A whole new concept. I honestly think of it more as a thriller than a horror film. I can't think of one instance when I jumped in my seat from being scared by what I see or didn't see on screen. A horror film I feel should creep me out and make me squirm in my seat. I didn't get that from Unfriended. Now don't get me wrong I was thoroughly entertained. The film did leave me wanting more but I have a hard time categorizing Unfriended as a horror film.

Major props for originality with the way this film was shot. The concept of filming this film opens the doors for filmmakers of all levels to create a film without breaking the bank and bringing in the profits! I can't post opening box office sales, but I imagine that Unfriended will do very well as well as becoming a cult classic.

The cast included Shelley Hennig, Renee Olstead, Will Peltz, Jacob Wysocki, Matthew Bohrer, Heather Sossaman and Courtney Halverson. Unfriended was directed by Levan Gabriadze.

One final note, this film is Rated R for violent content, pervasive language, some sexuality, and drug and alcohol use - all involving teens. There were 3 kids (around 10 years old) at my screening who left crying before the film ended. Be a responsible parent and look out for your child's well being.

If you can't get a sitter wait until it hits Video on demand, Netflix or Blu-ray. Not worth mentally scaring your kid for life.
