The day Blue Man Group gave my son a prosthetic arm

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     cynthiafalar's son, Wyatt, had his right arm amputated as a baby. This month, he received a robotic arm from the Limbitless Solutions team at University of Central Florida. He requested a Blue Man Group-inspired arm. The university arranged for the entertainment troupe to deliver the arm to Wyatt in a special presentation before a recent show in Orlando.

I think there are special days you never forget – like getting married and having a baby. For me, seeing our son, Wyatt, receive an arm was one of those.

There were so many special moments that we keep holding in our hearts: the warmth and love from the Blue Man Group, the expression on his face when he realized he could give a proper handshake, and the sheer joy of seeing your son’s difference being celebrated.

The arm is truly amazing. It is just what our son wished for – including the Blue Man Group logo on the inside! But what are truly humbling are the gifts of kindness. When complete strangers welcome you like family. Every member of the Blue Man team, from the stage crew, to the top executives, made Wyatt feel like he was very special. That love and kindness was a gift he will never forget.

We have tried to freeze that day in our minds. As a family, we have replayed the whole experience over and over again.

The hardest part has been waiting for today - for the chance to share that experience with others. We want to help lead the hope for other families. There is also an opportunity to get others involved to assist in the process of building these devices.

I can honestly say that the process of being connected with the Blue Man Group through the students of Limbitless Solutions and the University of Central Florida has inspired Wyatt to dream of attending the college and one day becoming a Blue Man! The process of mentoring my child goes beyond the arm – for this I am humbled and grateful beyond measure.
