    Balinese Ngaben Ceremony

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Freelance photographer Fabrizio Alessi recently witnessed the cultural tradition of Ngaben, a Balinese funeral ritual. Locals believe in burning the body of the deceased to send it to the next life.

“The body of the deceased will be placed as if sleeping, and the family will continue to treat the deceased as sleeping,” said Alessi, who posted this series of photos to Instagram in April. “No tears are shed, because the deceased is only temporarily absent and will reincarnate or find final rest in Moksha (freeing from the reincarnation and death)."
