    Crabs Invade Southern California

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Crabs have been invading the coast of southern California. According to local media, researchers are still trying to figure out why the crabs beached themselves, but they say it's a possibility that it's because of the warm water coming from Mexico. "The sand was sprinkled with red for as far as you could see," said jimginsd, who took these pictures in Ocean Beach, California, on Thursday.

Several weeks ago a few beaches in Southern California had a few of these red tuna crabs scattered about on the sand.
Wednesday evening large sections of beaches in San Diego got covered with the 3 inch long lobster looking crustaceans. By Thursday morning the sand was covered with a red hue. The vast majority of the crabs were dying however people were collecting the living ones to eat. Tides, wind and weather patterns have pushed the crabs much further North then in prior years.
These photos were taken Thursday in Ocean Beach Ca.
