    California Washington Fire

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     Jack Freer lives in Gardnerville, Nevada, right near the state line of California. He captured these images of the fire that has been burning in Markleeville since Wednesday. Freer used his camera with a long lens to capture the first two photos while the last photo was taken on a GoPro camera attached to a DJI Phantom 2 drone. Freer stated that the wind has changed directions today, causing lower visibility due to the smoke.

The lightning caused Washington fire started June 19 at 7 p.m. 8 miles south of Markleeville, California in steep rocky terrain. The lack of vehicle access and heavy timber with numerous downfalls are hampering firefighting progress.

There is a rapid rate of spread, crowning and spotting, and wind-driven fire runs through critically dry fuels were observed this afternoon and evening.

A Red Flag Warning has been issued over the fire area due to gusty winds to 40 mph and low relative humidity of less than 15 percent for Sunday until 10 p.m.

Air and ground units are engaged in suppression activities on the incident.

The fire management will be transitioned to a Type II Incident Command Team Sunday for safety, tactical and strategic purposes.

Currently 6,500 acres have burned and there is no estimate of containment or control.
