    1970's Goofy Foot

In the 1970s, Skateboarders were making a comeback in Southern California, referred to as Dogtown or Zboys on the west coast.

The metal wheels of the past were replaced by colorful polyurethane & the skateboards were custom made to meet the highest expectations of the intense rider who owned it.

Here in NYC, specifically in Manhattan, there was a bunch of us skateboarders who were also passionate when it came to skateboarding.

We had a skateboard store called City Skateboards. It was on the Upper East Side of Manhattan & they sponsored a competitive skateboard team.

We made skateboard ramps on dead end city streets & had our own slalom competitions (see photo).

This is me on my Hobie. I still have it & after writing this, am gonna find it & reminisce about the goofy footed kid I was. Maybe I'll even buy new wheels!
