    Confederate flag sparks celebration

CNN PRODUCER NOTE     After the South Carolina State House decided to remove the Confederate battle flag from capitol grounds, people took to the streets to both celebrate and protest. Jensen Stidham took these photos of the celebrations.

"Tensions were high, minor fights broke out but the American flag prevailed over all," he said.

Hundreds of people were outside the State House in S.C., celebrating the decision to take down the confederate flag July 9, 2015. After more than 15 hours and 60 amendments, lawmakers passed the bill 94-20, marking a historic decision to no longer fly the flag on State House grounds. The confederate flag has been flying in South Carolina since 1961.
