    Election 2008

This has been a long and tiring election. I have almost always voted Democrat and will do so again this election year. But, that doesn't mean that I am a bleeding heart liberal. I agree that we need someone to come in and give relief to the middle class, instead of always those that can afford the luxuries most of us cannot. But, before you berate and judge me, let me tell you about me:

I am a (or was for a long time) single mother of 3. I left an abusive boyfriend only to go on welfare and assistance. I went to school and earned my associates degree in accounting, got a full time job, and went back to school. I was a full time single mother, a full time worker, and a full time student. I finished the rest of my bachelors degree in less then 2 years. I have been off of any assistance for the last 7 years or longer. I don't blame anyone for the mistakes that I have made, but will take credit for pulling myself out of a bad situation with the help of the welfare system. Today I am gainfully employed with a large national company, provide health insurance for my kids, own a home, etc. etc. I hate the stigma that comes with being on welfare and those that use the system to their advantage. I would like to believe that if I was one of those people making over $250K per year, I would be ok with paying more taxes to help those that need it....especially the children that are suffering due to no fault of their own. But, that's the liberal in me.

This election seems to have divided this country even more. Instead of all of us coming together during this time of economic uncertainty, we sit on either side of the political spectrum and spew hateful rhetoric towards each other. I have read many different articles that weren't about politics, only to see the comments posted about them contain such politcal bias and finger pointing it is disgusting!

I think that whoever is elected into office will have a hard uphill battle to fight. He must take this awful election and try to unite a divided country. But as American's, I truly think that it is time that we come together and not wait for a leader to do what we all should be doing on our own. Whatever happenend to love thy neighbor?
