    United Nations International Youth Day, Abuja-Nigeria


    The CNNiReport community in Abuja joined other youths in the flag off/prelude to the United Nations International Youth Day to be commemorated in Abuja by the host Youth organization (CYON, Maitama) and approved by United Nations Headquarters.


    The theme of this event is “Youth Civic Engagement” The United Nations has identified that when youths are actively engaged in their civic duties, the hope of building a better future is assure especially as the MDGs will pave way for the SDGs this year.


    The prelude event took place on Sunday August 2, 2015. Beginning with an awareness program at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church, Maitama, Abuja.


    The activities that day were:
    *Traffic Controls in Abuja
    *Awareness on MDGs and the SDGs
    *Charity Visit and donations to the IDP camps (Internally Displaced People's camp due to Boko Haram War)


    The event caught the attention of many, including the Governor of Plateau State, in Nigeria. He came with his wife and family. A senator and House of Rep member were also in attendance.


    The Nigerian Red Cross and National Blood Transfusion Service accompanied us in our Flag off campaign.
    We also had media presence: NTA (Largest TV network in Africa) and Good Shepherd Magazine.


    CHELSEA HOTEL, CRUSTEAM, WESTMINSTER SECURITY, CAREERWISE and others are sponsors and collaborators.


    The next event will be on Saturday 8th, August where we shall mobilize young Medical Volunteers for free medical services in the IDP Camps

    August 15: Main event. Registration begins 11am
    * Event concert in Holy Trinity event hall in Maitama, Abuja.
    * Four Renown Speakers confirmed
    * Nigeria Red Cross shall speak on Volunteerism
    * Federal Road Safety: On Roles Of The Youth In Keeping Safe Roads.
    * Celebrity appearances
    * Blood Donations in collaboration with National Blood Transfusion Service.
    * Entertainment and Performances
    * Networking and Exhibitions.


    Arrangement has been made for young entrepreneurs to come exhibit their businesses and skills at no cost.
    This event is open to all young people in Nigeria Muslims, Christians, everyone!


    It is our dream to build a peaceful, prosperous Nigeria and a happy world.
