Newark Cop Puts CBS Cameraman in Chokehold

A Newark police officer and his partner arrested a CBS news cameraman and put him in a chokehold for doing absolutely NOTHING... except his job. The camerman was on public propertyfilming a march in front of a church when he was told he had to stop filming or be arrested. He refused and was then handled violently by police. When he protested that it was his constitutional right (something called freedom of the press) and told the cop he couldn't arrest him, the Newark police officer responded by saying "I CAN DO ANYTHING I WANT." I have a little news for the Newark Police Department-- we live in a free and open society. We are protected by something called THE CONSTITUTION. It's called the First Amendment. It's called freedom of the press. It was put there to protect citizens from thugs and tyrants. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/First_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution If you do not care for the First Amendment, then you do not care for America. I highly recommend people read Naomi Wolf's 10 Steps to Fascism. Numbers 6 and 8 on the list are as follows: 6) Engage in arbitrary detention and release. 8) Control the Press A police officer attacking and illegally detaining a journalist is an EXTREMELY important matter-- and not just for the journalist, but ALL OF US. You can read about Naomi Wolf's 10 Steps to fascism here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_End_of_America
