Colombian university students pick Rubio and Sanders
MEDELLÍN, COLOMBIA – A group of undergraduate students majoring in political science and communications at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana (UPB) in Medellín, Colombia is following the US presidential election closely and sent message and strategy recommendations today to the campaigns of Sen. Marco Rubio, R. FL, and Sen. Bernie Sanders, I, VT. Their recommendations covered issues ranging from immigration to foreign and economic policy.
The students received certifications Oct. 2 after completing a one week intensive seminar on US politics and campaigns taught by US political consultant Michael Meurer of Meurer Group & Associates and Meurer Education in Los Angeles, CA.
For the final exam, the class broke into two teams, Los Rojos (Reds) and Los Azules (Blues). Each team created a brief campaign plan for a US presidential candidate of their choice. Los Azules chose Bernie Sanders. Los Rojos chose Marco Rubio. They sent their presentations to both campaigns Oct. 19.
“Colombia and the US have traditionally had a very strong relationship, and we believe that a Bernie Sanders presidency would strengthen that relationship and move it in new directions that would be beneficial for both of our nations,” said Azules team members Alejandro Montoya Fuentes, Santiago Muñoz Calvo and Sara Uribe Arango.
Rojos team members Juan Esteban Uribes, Santiago Franco and Mariana Martinez said of Rubio, “We believe that Senator Rubio offers a fresh face, new ideas and change that would be good for the US relationship with Colombia and the world.”
“This was an extraordinary group of students with a very well informed global perspective,” said guest Professor Michael Meurer. “They are tomorrow’s leaders, and they are excited to be sharing their thoughts with the campaigns of Senators Rubio and Sanders.”
