    Saint Malo, Brittany, France

    Saint Malo, Brittany, France

Located on the Northwest coast of Brittany.  Eighty percent of this Midieval city was destroyed in August-September 1944 by American planes and British warships and rebuilt over a 12 year period thanks to the influence of the Catholic church, the Saint Malo bishop and it being the home of one of the seven cathedrals in France.

The story of the destruction of the city was told to me by a bookshop owner, born in Saint Malo and editor of French history books.  A hard to believe tale claiming that the  German troops had already evacuated by the time of the attack and fewer than 100 were killed.  The French residents had left years before.

Then why the devastating attack?...faulty intelligence!

    Photos last week in October.
