Heat, Bushland and Cigarettes Dont Mix

A fire has broken out in Baldivis near Sixty-Eight Road and Baldivis Road. The Freeway was closed for a short time before being reopened at a reduced speed limit due to low visibility as the wind blew the smoke across the Freeway.

The fire was caused by a cigarette igniting dry grass. A person walking along a track was responsible, but the fire was deemed an accident.

Multiple Fire Crews responded to the fire.

The Department of Fire and Emergency Services advises people to phone in to report sightings of fire or smoke in bushland to Triple "000" and suspicious activity in bushland to CrimeStoppers on 1800 333 000.

With the temperature set to stay around 35 degrees and reach 37 in the coming days Fire Crews are ready and prepared to tackle any outbreak.

Bushfires take micro-seconds to take hold and their destruction can be deadly and vast.
