    Two Iowa Boys

Not many people will understand, how the heartland of America used to work in the early 1950's. When you would have Sunday dinner with someone across town or even your neighbor, that would be the news in the local paper.

This picture of my Dad (Navy on the left) and his friend Ronnie Stratton, from the same small Iowa town, were asked to take a picture together for their local paper, to let friends and family know that they were doing okay. This picture was taken in Iwakuni, Japan in 1951, during the Korean War.

My father had served in World War Two and the Korean War. I remembered the day he left for Korea, like it was yesterday.  He wore a flannel shirt and jeans, and I stood at the door and waved goodbye.  He would call from his ship during those few years and it was always so comforting to hear his voice.

So many stories for those that have served and so proud that he chose to honor his country.  Thank you Dad.
