    Paris..Panic in the Streets

Although trying to remain resolute and strong after the terrorist attacks Friday night it doesn't take much to create panic in the streets of Paris. Last night there were numerous reports throughout the city of people fleeing what they thought was yet another attempt at a terrorist attack. Most notable was the scene at Place de la Republique when thousands who had gathered to mourn tried to flee when they heard what they thought was the sound of gunshots. After a massive panic across and around the square which left shoes scattered over the candle lit memorial it was discovered that the cracking sounds were fire works and no one was reported injured.

Last night at about 6 p.m. CET on our way by bicycle to a mass being held at Notre Dame Cathedral my wife and I entered into an eerily deserted part of what is normally a very busy area of central Paris in the 4th arrondissement. As we rode down rue de la Verrerie we could see, perhaps 75 meters down the street, dozens of people scrambling at the cross at rue du Temple.

When we arrived at the cross of the two streets the photos and video show what we encountered. Two motorcycle police attempted to calm the agitated onlookers with assurances that it was NOT another terrorist attack.  An ambulance arrived minutes later

Finally, and in retrospect we can't say exactly what had happened other than perhaps 15 minutes before we arrived there were reports of the sound of gun shots, people claim to have seen guns. which sent people running out of the restaurant, the man in red shirt (photo through window) had a severe injury to his arm and there was, moderate damage to the restaurant. It wasn't necessary for us to remain,..no way in which to help so we bicycled another 10 minutes beofre reaching Notre Dame Cathedral.

Paris remains tense after the terrorist attacks...everything seems normal until something, and it could be just the sound of a fire cracker, creates panic.

Everything seems normal until "out of nowhere" and it could happen anywhere at any time, you find tears running down your face and you're weeping.
