A real Requiem in virtual worlds

Our world is vulnerable. On a large scale we see it in our days: airplane crashes, earthquakes, tsunamis. We work to do our best to reduce the risks of such happenings and to minimize the damage and loss of lives. Then, all of a sudden it all seems to make no sense: Paris on November 13, 2015, the last impact. That night I was in a chat with WizardOz Chrome as she did the final edits for “Requiem - an artistic remembrance of the victims, the survivors and the aftermath of 9/11."

As I saw the uploaded machinima I thought if one does not know the city skyline of New York one would think it is made for Paris, just the words are in English, not French. It took WizardOz many days to cut, to select, to arrange and to blend in some portions out of the 40 minutes of captured video material I sent her. She kept it in the five minute range that usually people like to watch if something comes on the fly by a share or by a like via facebook or other social media platforms -- or via Virtual Worlds.

So this production is from there, from virtual worlds -- but these days when you walk, fly, teleport around you see: that´s not virtual, people speak of Paris, they ask friends there, they share flags, join events, create them, perform them for free, like Paris Obscur (in virtual worlds JonathanDimitri Soderstrom) created for the attack on Paris a song, you may watch on youtube at https://youtu.be/78Bc9TB6MKQ

You may know your friend speaks French, but where this person lives you have no clue -- until such an impact happens. Virtual gets closer, there is no barrier if we speak of honest players, like everywhere in life.

Yesterday on November 15, 2015 friends of Nitro Fireguard and lovers of his art came together to celebrate a memorial of his passing on November 7th in Paris. He died of cancer. More than 50 persons attended and I will write a posting about this friend. The personal loss is the heaviest impact we know – the machinima of 9/11 shall remind us that behind the anonymous loss are individuals affected -- for them it is.

Listen to the lyrics used in the Requiem “Maybe There's a World that I am still to find ...”
