This iReport is part of an assignment:
Midwest quake |
The midwest has it all!
I made myself put down Cormac McCarthy's novel, "The Road", about an hour prior to the quake. I was having some fitful dreams to begin with, but then I was awakened by a large cracking noise. I was laying spread eagle on my bed (weird to begin with) and I immediately thought that a subway was going under my house. All I could do is lie there and enjoy the ride that seemed to go on and on.
The movement finally dissipated and then my thoughts of the book started coming back to me. "What if it wasn't an earthquake", I startled. So I roused myself out of bed and turned on CNN. I figured that if the world had experienced something catastrophic, I would find out. Thankfully it was just an earthquake.
We lived in southern CA when I was a child and I have no memories of "the Big One" we went through. It was pretty cool to experience one as an adult, in St. Louis of all places. Hopefully that will be it.
This spring we have had floods, mudslides, clouds that could spawn tornadoes, blizzards and now an earthquake! I would appreciate it a little more if we had the mountains or the beach.
Ya'll can keep your forest fires, tsunamis and hurricanes to yourself!
