Voting problems |
Early voting surprise
I am a 29 year old resident of Miami, Florida and decided to take advantage of the early voting option being offered. For the majority of last week I had been putting it off but I decided that I had to go today since not only was it the last day to vote early, but I didn't want to spend all day at the polls on November 4.
My sister Emahn hadn't voted yet either so I picked her up, we had lunch and headed out to vote. We decided on a whim that we would go to the Stephen P. Clark building located in Downtown Miami. We parked near Miami Dade College's campus and took the free metro mover over to the polling location.
Once we arrived, there were hundreds of people already in line. We were a little taken aback but tried not to be discouraged. The line was moving at an extremely slow pace. However, the poll workers and goodwill ambassadors were very efficient in regards to their accommodations and operations. The provided us with lots of water, snacks and encouragement.
Eventually the sun started to set and three and a half hours had passed. I was growing tired of standing on my feet so long. I looked over at my sister and could see that she was feeling the same way.
All of a sudden, we heard a few high pitched screams. We looked around, somewhat alarmed, hoping that no one had gotten hurt. That is when we saw the oasis we needed... None other than rapper Jay Z!!!! The screams we heard were from surprised voters who had spotted him walking up to the building! We were so excited!! He strolled up with an entourage which included his rumored wife Beyonce Knowles. He shook hands with the people standing in line, gave us hugs and most importantly gave us a shot of adrenaline to keep going on that last stretch of waiting time. I was fortunate enough to get a few pictures of he and Beyonce with my camera. His appearance was such a breath of fresh air and excitement!
An hour later, my sister and I finally completed our ballot and left the building excited by today's events and for the future.
