Vote on Nov. 5 - George Mason University Email Hacked

I received the following email this morning at my George Mason University email address -

From: ANNOUNCE04-L [mailto:<redacted: GMU mailing list>] On Behalf Of Office of the Provost

    Sent: Tuesday, November 04, 2008 1:17 AM

    To: <redacted: GMU mailing list>

    Subject: Election Day Update

    To the Mason Community:

Please note that election day has been moved to November 5th. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you.

    Peter N. Stearns

    Provost

Subject: Additional Info on Election Day

    To the Mason Community:

I hear some troubling rumors, so here are a couple of facts: 1. The election is Nov. 4, for all political parties. The notion that one party votes Nov. 5 is UNTRUE. 2. It is also UNTRUE that any student

    jeopardizes financial aid by voting.

After contacting the Provost's office, the following email was sent to all GMU students:

    Subject: Urgent Voting Information

    Dear Colleagues,

It has come to my attention early this morning that a message was hacked into the system fraudulently stating that election day has been moved.

I am sure everybody realizes this is a hoax, it is also a serious offense and we are looking into it. Please be reminded that election day is today, November 4th.

    Peter N. Stearns

    Provost

I hope that they catch whoever did this and that person is made an example.  For some reason, as we get closer to the election many feel that they can bend (and in most cases break) laws in order to further their candidate's cause.  Hacking into emails, stealing campaign signs from front yards, etc.  We live in a civilized country, let's try to have a civilized election.
