Obama makes history |
Note to the Media: Barack is President of ALL Americans
NOTE TO THE MEDIA, NOTE TO THE MEDIA, NOTE TO THE MEDIA: Barack Obama is NOT the President of just African Americans, he is the President of ALL Americans. Haven't you heard him say that time and again throughout this campaign?
As a Chicagoian, a Barack supporter, both financially and with my time, I completely understand the historic significance of this win for African Americans. However, last nightand today'scoverage of this event has almost EVERY photo and video of crying and rejoicing African-Americans. It's as though the white, asian, hispanic, vote didn't matter anymore (as you had SO hyped ever damn demographic during the primaries).
Had any of you, the media, been in the streets of Chicago last nightas I wasyou would have seen that EVERYONE was out celebrating the election of their president: Black, White, Asian, Women, Men, Old and Young.
But, as I returned home last night from the celebrations and turned on the TV, I saw countless videos and photos of African American reactions to the victory.
I could only imagine the reaction of those in this country who fear, even if only a little, the idea of a black man in the White House. I cringed knowing that this is the complaint I will likely hear from some those who were already on the fence about him because of the color of his skin.
Race relations are NOT over in this country with the simple election of Obama and should you continue to portray Obama's only supporters as black, you will surely alienate millions of others in the country and continue to stoke the flames of racism.
What do you think of this story?
