    Dear Mr. President

Obama Administration to continue Bush Mideast Peace efforts.

For the past several years this iReporter has followed the Mideast Peace efforts with keen interest. I have to confess that at the beginning of 2008 I had all but given up that the efforts of the Bush Administration to help bring about a permanent peace between Israel and the Palestinian people could succeed. On Friday Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice addressed this issue: U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Friday denied the Israeli-Palestinian peace process sponsored by U.S. President George W. Bush was a failure, saying it should lay the ground for an eventual deal. Launched nearly a year ago at a conference in Annapolis, Maryland, the negotiations were hampered from the start by violence and bitter disputes over Israel's settlement building and the future of Jerusalem. The article that appears at Haaretz.com goes on to mention President elect Obama saying: Israel and the Palestinian Authority are to announce on Sunday their commitment to continuing talks on the core issues in 2009 after president-elect Barack Obama takes office. The parties have agreed to negotiate based on the principles determined at the Annapolis conference. As an amateur historian on the Mideast conflicts I am especially glad to see that President elect Obama will be taking up the cause building on the groundwork of Secretary Rice and other members of the Bush administration as they have attempted to come to an agreement that will stop the violence between Israel and the Palestinian people. If President Bush's successor can succeed in this endeavor he will indeed assure a lasting legacy for himself that people in the generations as yet unborn will look to with appreciation. I urge all men and women of good will to come together and wish our new President elect the best of luck in this endeavor. It is a daunting task. Many American Presidents have tried to accomplish this noble goal. Good luck Sir. Related stories: Barack Obama tells Haaretz: Two states for two peoples</A< span> Related story.
