    Obama makes history

    More from LandSlide

    Cry, Baby, Cry!

From the nature of so many of the new iReports as well as posted comments I've seen from after the election, the disaffected raving right seems to have embraced yet another new slogan. This time it's "Cry Baby Cry!", although there is some strong competition from "Blame Baby Blame", "Rant Baby Rant" and "Spew Racist Vile Baby, Spew Racist Vile".

From blaming "The Left Wing Media", "The Black Vote", "Sexism", "Buying the Election" and all the way to an Obama engineered economic crisis, this very vocal minority just can't assimilate the fact that Americans, more than anything else, simply wanted a change in direction form the disastrous course laid out and followed by what is now very widely considered to be the single most inept, secretive, lawless and corrupt administration in American history or at the very least, that any living person can remember.

While some seek answers to question or voice their opinions, legitimate or not, in a civil manner, others are only interested in scolding us for how we voted while giving us their dire predictions,  spreading more or rehashing the same divisive rhetoric, swearing their oath to never support this president or simply insulting all who don't see  things their way. I must admit that my response at times hasn't been much better than their rants. This is why I've decided to say my peace here once and for all.

To say that our country is divided is a profound understatement. It has always been so in one way or another throughout our history, but lately, the divide seems to be getting deeper and the mood much more sinister. It seems to me that especially since the Clinton administration, the right has become more vocal and much more combative in their message. The huge growth in conservative talk radio programs along with Fox News and the Internet has added plenty of fuel to that fire. These divisions are more and more being exploited for political gain, and therefore also promoted by politicians by injecting hateful, divisive rhetoric and issues into every campaign since. The same thing happens to some degree on both sides of the fight, but these last few years have seen a level of divisiveness that is downright scary, especially on the right. The message and methods seem to be getting more urgent and dangerous with every new fight.

Once that campaign is over however, the politicians quickly back down and away from the most divisive rhetoric, while the crowd they riled up is left with either a feeling of righteous accomplishment or deep fear that their life as they know it is over. In this case, it's obviously the latter.

I think that we all need to remind ourselves that what we witnessed last Tuesday, apart for its historic significance, is also just another repetition and reaffirmation of the peaceful transfer of power between governing administrations as dictated by our Constitution and mandated by the will of the people who voted. If you are an American; conservative, centrist or liberal, religious or not, you must feel proud of this. The fact that you can then publicly rant about it is also a testament to our way of government.

In four years, you will again have the opportunity to cast your vote for what I hope is the benefit of your country over your narrow group. In the meantime, I would also hope that you ACT in the benefit of your country over your narrow group.

We will all be watching what our new President does once in office. If he lies and screws us like the last one, we will vote him out as well, but condemning a person for what we think they might do before they do it is pretty useless and worse, hurts your credibility if it doesn't happen. For now, I'll watch and see, while lending any assistance that I can in making this period of time successful for my country. That means for you and me.

So I guess it's your choice. You can either cry or get up off you butt and try to make it better. If you could have voted and didn't, as far as I'm concerned you have no right to cry at all.
