Are you better off? |
Holidays Not Looking as Bright as Usual
We own a small business and we thought we could ride out this economic storm without getting slammed too much, but it is creeping up very quickly. This year has been tough, but the past few weeks have really took a downward turn. We had an unexpected medical emergency which depleted our out of pocket for the year ( $5500.00) which, of course, is on top of the astronomical monthly premiums. Our retirement account which we fund ourselves, with no help from an employer, has just taken a huge hit as well. Business has slowed down dramatically, so yep, we're beginning to really feel the pinch, or is that "bite"? What normally is a fun time of year to shop for a few special gifts and handing out bonuses, well, that's going to be a challenge for sure. Right now, the main focus is keeping the business running, keeping our employees working, and getting through the tough times. We just hope things start turning around SOON! And, even though our personal situation could be better, we also know there are many, many other small businesses and families in worse financial states than we are, and we want to wish them well and a much better 2009!
