This iReport is part of an assignment:
Gulf War illness |
Gulf War Illness is Very Real
My father is a veteran of the United States Army. He served in Saudi Arabia during Desert Storm when I was a small child. Immediately following his return, he began to have severe allergies that left him constantly exhausted. Approximately 5 years after the war, he had his first set of polyps removed from his inner nasal cavity. These pollups, which his multitude of doctors believe, are a direct cause of inhaled bioagents from his time in the Gulf. Since his first surgery, my father has undergone 3 more surgeries to constantly remove these invasive growths. They cause complete nasal blockage over time and severe sinus headaches. Unfortunately, there is no cure for these polyps, and my father will need surgeries about every 5 years of his life, for the rest of his life.
