This iReport is part of an assignment:
Gulf War illness |
Service Connected Illness
My husband died from what the doctors at Walter Reed called a "service connected illness" in 1997. He did get exceptional care and we had no complaints about that. It was an extremely rare cancer that is caused enviromentally in adults. They couldn't look you right in the eye and tell you it was from the Gulf War, but we knew., and as a solider he accepted it. When he came back, he was not as healthy as he had been. He was the guy who never got sick before his deployment. This cancer ate him up in 10 months. He let behind 4 year old boys that now are15 and only have the stories I can tell them of their father. When I read this report, I just wanted to scream! Why couldn't you just admit it all those years ago. I hope and pray that all the vets from this war are now taken more seriously and get the medical assistance they need. We are still a proud amercian family who actively support the soldiers overseas.
