    Moon Venus Jupiter Conjunction

The Moon, Venus, and Jupiter form a celestial triangle in the sky; 01 December 2008, taken from Wall Township, NJ by Mike Black.

Moon is at left, Venus at bottom, and Jupiter at right.

The planet/moon line up is an optical illusion. While they seem close in the sky, they are really very far apart:

The Moon is 240,000 miles away, but Venus is 370 times farther, 94 million miles away. Jupiter is 540 million miles away, seven times farther then Venus.
