This iReport is part of an assignment:
Are you a Millionaire in the Making? |
Western Opportunity
My husband and I are recently married and in our late 20s. He is a veterinarian in a small mixed animal practice buying in at 5% a year. I work for the local university full time with great benefits. We live off of 53% of his salary, the other 47% we get at the end of the year as a 'bonus'. The bonus money we use for IRA, health savings account and additional stock market purchases. We have no debt, all our credit cards, student debt and vehicles are paid for. We pay our bills together and invest my paycheck each month. We have an emergency money market account with 6 months of living expenses saved up. I max out my 401k and he earns 5% of the clinic ownership each year. Living in a small town we don't make huge salaries but have other opportunites. Each year we buy grass cattle to graze our pasture and we make a 45% return on our money. Every other year we have a wheat crop that we share-crop and we get about a 200% return on investment. We hope to be millionaires by the time we're 50 but this economy has us nervous about the buisness and our investments.
