Sound-off |
Oprah, you are not a bovine, your attitude is
After reading Oprah's comments on how at 200 lbs she feels like a "Cow", I've never wanted to march up to someone and smack them so hard in my life.
Women have looked up to or listened to Oprah for a long time, by subjectifying herself as she has, what example has she set for people who are struggling with weight issues? What about those viewers she has who have eating disorders, has she set an example for them either?
I think someone who's in the public eye as much as Oprah is needs to remember that comments like this not only hurt her image, but they hurt people like myself who weighs just as much as she does and I don't think I'm a COW. Yes, I'm angry at someone I used to look up to for being a trendsetting forward thinking speaker and women's advocate.
More than anything I just want to run up to her, shake her really hard and say "honey! Wake up! It's not THAT bad."
Thanks for setting women back a few decades O.
Edited to add- Again, I've always been a fan of Oprahs, and yes, I know she's human just like most of us, and has done more for Americans than most celebrities every thought about. I admire her deeply and yeah, I'll get over this.
