Smells Like Teen Spirit
I was in 8th grade and one of three captains on the basketball team. I had gotten my hands on the single "Smells Like Teen Spirit." I remember how pumped up that song would make me. My best friend was also a captain, and his mom taught at our school. It was our first game of the season and I convinced him to go out to his mom's car and blast the song so that we could get psyched up for the game. Well, we ended up listening to it more than a few times and we were late for tip-off. We were both scheduled to start the game and ended up getting benched instead. My friend recovered (because he was good and I was not) and made it back to being a starter. I rode the bench for the rest of the season. I still prefer music over sports.
