This iReport is part of an assignment:
It’s not a manctuary, it’s a MAN CAVE |
Quick, Robin... to the Man Cave!
Combination bedroom, theater, office, studio, and all around manctuary, my man cave has become a safe haven for all of my hobbies, interests, collectibles and bad habits. Partitioned by a futon and my imagination, the carpeted basement room has turned into four separate areas.
The bedroom comes complete with a king size bed (for one) adorned with blindingly colorful sheets, Superman and American Psycho pillowcases, and surrounded by posters galore. Marty McFly and Rocky Balboa are joined by Mr. Blonde, Clint Eastwood's "The Man with No Name," the cast of 2005's Sin City, and at the head of the bed stands guard the infamous "Bad Guy" of police academy target practice fame. He comes complete with well-placed bullet holes marked by yours truly.
To the right of the bedroom is my office space, with yet more posters of popular culture icons and characters. Here is where I do most of my graphic design work under the watchful eyes of Christopher Reeve and master Yoda.
A full 90 degree turn from the office space puts you in my studio space. Directly above my drawing table, where I do all of my illustration and painting work, is a mural photograph of yours truly in full Russian WWII garb, exuding as much masculinity as King Leonidas and John Wayne combined.
Opposite the bedroom and just a futon's back away from the studio space is my living room/theater area. Adorned with even more posters, this time of a strictly movie-house variety, it serves as the home to my video game systems, DVD collection, and a mere fraction of a massive and ever-growing collection of action figures. Characters from comic books, TV shows, films and historical literature are proudly displayed amidst 8x10s of Lou Ferrigno as the "Incredible Hulk" and Robert DeNiro as Travis Bickle in "Taxi Driver," as well as various other nods to popular culture. Within it all is a fully customized guitar for melting faces in Guitar Hero, and even an action figure of yours truly, complete with Rise Against hoodie, 3/4" gauged ears, and an M-60 machine gun.
On your way in and out the door you'll find a coat room with even more movie posters, and a custom-built coffee table. Weighing in at around 200 lbs. and built with my own two hands, it's made of 3.5" steel tubing drilled with 128 holes to resemble massive machine gun barrels. Beneath the glass are plaster tiles carved with machine guns and bullet holes surrounded by a confetti of expelled bullet and shell casings. Two Chinese sais and a replica of V's mask from "V for Vendetta" bid you adieu.
