E.U. mission gaining ground on Russia

The EU pressure forces Russia to make concessions and Russian troops have pulled back from a Georgian village near the de facto border with breakaway South Ossetia, European Union monitors said Friday, easing fears of confrontation in the area.
"We very much welcome this move," mission head Ambassador Hansjoerg Haber said in a statement. "... the insistence of the EU President and of the EUMM (European Union Monitoring Mission) on the ground has borne fruit."
