More Nativity Collection from Around the World @ Intramuros Philippines

I saw this exhibit during my trip to Intramuros. It is a collection of figurines of the Nativity Story. Every set is a different interpretation depending on which country it came from. Materials used are also highlighted here. The title of the exhibit is ‘Vamos, A Belen: The Exhibit’ by Ramon Obusan who passed away back in 2006.

Appreciation for the craftsmanship and patience of the artisans who made the figurines started this collection. The first set was bought in Israel in 1969 and the collection grew to around 200 sets from 35 different countries. Materials used by artisans are from cork, ebony, terra cotta, paper mache, ostrich eggs, shells, cornhusks etc depending on the country of origin.

In spite of the difference in materials and presentation, all of these have a similar theme, which is the Nativity.
