Benedict the Moor festivities
in the town of Cabimas, Venezuela and many other towns in the area, festivities honoring saint Benedict the Moor are celebrated every dec.27th and jan.6th (epiphany). believers dance in procession to the beat of drums and bath the image of the saint in rum wishing for favors or paying thanks for favors received. this year security was very tight to avoid the "stealing" of the saint and safety for the people. believers "steal" the saint to prevent it from returning to the church and extend celebrations.
