    Your Michael Crichton tributes

    He will never be forgotten

I remember when I was about 7 and my older brother was a Senior. I had just seen Jurassic Park in theatre and like every other young boy, I was fascinated with the movie. I also looked up to my brother a lot... I wanted to be just like him. One day I saw that he was reading Jurassic Park...I admired the cover of the book. It had the skull of a T Rex on it and I noticed the author's name on below the skull. That name stuck with me for years. Ten years later, I'm in my high school's library and I come across the book again. I see the author's name and it hits me like a train. I read Mr. Crichton's short bibliography on the last page of the book and I noticed the other books he had created. I noticed the book titled "SPHERE" and it rang it bell. I realized it had become a movie, a movie which I had seen and it was indeed a great movie as well. I immediately checked out the book and read it. Being satisfied with the book, I went back to check out another. Thats when I came across Timeline. I've always been fascinated with medieval times so the first thing I noticed about this book was the knight on horseback on the cover. I checked the book out right away and read it within a couple of days. I couldn't get enough of it. I finished the book and as I closed it, I thought to myself, 'wow, that was an amazing story. I'm surprised this book hasn't become a movie.' A few months go by and sure enough, I see the previews for Timeline. I nearly jumped out of my shoes. I was excited that I read the book again. I went to go see the movie on opening day and it was exactly word for word what I imagined it to be. I pretty much knew the script already. A few months later after seeing the film, I rented the movie to show my friends. As the movie finished I though to myself, 'wasn't there a jousting scene?' I could've sworn there was a jousting scene. I have it pictured in my head perfectly. I remembered DeKere knocking Paul Walker off of his horse with his lance. And I remember that DeKere got off of his horse and approached Paul Walker eager to end his life. Then Marek came up and stood between them. DeKere was furious that Marek interfered with the battle. I cannot remember if Marek killed DeKere at that moment or if he just gave him a good fight. Although, I would've figured those fights were to the death. Anyways, that scene was stuck in my head and I replayed the movie over again looking for that scene but I could not find it. Thats when I realized that I had read this book so deeply and I had put myself in Castlegard.

I am currently reading Next. It's a little harder for me to follow.
