January 5, 2008 Greetings iReport Readers, The Mentoring High School Students' Program Many high school students do not know what they want to do after graduating from high school or before they go to college. The Mentoring High School Students' Program would provide Junior/Senior high school students with ideas of what it is like to work for a variety of businesses, such as working in: retail, agriculture, science, medical, beauty school, public service, etc.. The students would have a clearer idea of what the business really does. This program would give students a sense of being part of their community and a sense of be of value. At this time, many students don't know what they are going to do when they "grow up". If my idea is selected as a winner, I would do whatever I could to ensure that this type of program is established in my town and then across the country. On my own, I have setup a yearly scholarship program for high school students who are interested in the art field. This scholarship was setup approximately five years ago and is still going strong. I have received positive remarks from scholarship winners. I believe we all can do more for our country as a whole for our future leaders, and by providing students with additional guidance and assistance, there will be more responsible citizens who get involved in their community. If selected, I will set up a scholarship fund for those students who are in need of funding to attend college at our local college.
