Is this the end of patents?
The world is in economical crisis, many young and bright people have
lost
their jobs and are looking for employment. Many of this people could
use a new idea for a new business, but every thing they think of has
already been done. Thinking of a new business idea, and the cost of
patenting it is to hard for most of them. A new site is trying to help
them, with a new kind of patent - Open Patents.
The idea behind an open patent is that people are divided in to two
kinds - the creative ones, who come up with a new idea every other day,
and the entrepreneurs, who love working on new projects and making them
happen, but aren't the creative kind that actually think of the ideas.
The idea people will often try and get a product for their ideas, and
make a product that will sell, but most of their ideas will get lost -
since they won't do anything with them. This ideas should be saved.
Open Patents gives them a chance to share their ideas with the world
for free. That way, entrepreneurs could find great free ideas, and try
to make products out of them. The talk back method in the site promotes
the ideas, people respond to ideas, concepts continue to improve.
Some argue that by submitting an open patent, you are making it
impossible for any one to get a real patent on the idea, and therefor
no one will try and make a product out of it. "In a way this is true",
says Asam, one of the site developers, "But the positive side is
stronger - we are giving people a chance to make a difference, people
like you and me can give their ideas to the world and make new ideas
come to life!"
The
site already has a number of great ideas – and some strange ones. The
ideas submitted so far relate to safety, environmental, household
goods, computers and Electronics.
