Change a Life
January 9, 2009 Greetings Everyone, My name is Pam Drapala. I am an artist and a student soon to graduate from NAU Yuma. I am writing you tonight because I have a great idea and need your help. I submitted my idea at IdeaBlog yesterday and hope you help to bring my idea to life. My proposal: The Mentoring High School Students' Program The Mentoring High School Students' Program would be available to all students in our community who are interested in learning more about a career before they enter college or a trade school. Local businesses would provide students with overviews of their businesses at Mentoring High School Student Program Workshops. Tours would also be available to the students at various businesses in the Yuma Community. Many students do not know what they want to do after graduating from high school or before they go to college. This program would provide them with ideas of what it is like to work for certain businesses, such as working in the following areas: dental,engineering, education, banking, retail, agriculture, science, medical, beauty, general maintenance, public service, etc. so that they would have a clearer idea of what the business really does. This will save time and money for all involved. This program would give students a sense of being part of their community and a sense of worth. At this time, many students don't know what they are going to do when they "grow up". Therefore; businesses will have an opportunity to mentor to the next generation of workers. If my idea is selected by IdeaBlog, I would set-up a scholarship fund for high school graduates who have successfully completed the Mentoring High School Students' Program and assist them with funding to attend college. I am currently overseeing the Vincent A. Carvajal Scholarship Fund and have received positive remarks from past scholarship winners. In addition, a board of directors would be appointed to give their input in reference to the program's funding. In closing, high students are our future USA leaders, and by providing them with additional guidance and assistance, more students will become responsible citizens. It is our responsible to see that they have the tools to be successful, therefore; I respectfully request your help.
