    Immigration Reform -- Dream Act

    With all this talk of immigration reform, illegal immigrants this, illegal immigrants that, we often forget about the innocent victims in this entire situation – the children.  The Dream Act is one piece of legislation which needs to be passed as soon as possible so that we can ensure children are not punished for the actions of those around them.

    Just think back to when you were 13 years-old and your parents were planning the "visit every state road-trip".  You know the kind of trip everyone dreads on going, spending 12 hours a day locked up in a car with the bratty siblings!  And even as much as you hate having to go you know  you have no choice in the matter.  You know, as a child, adults make the decision and you merely have to follow them where-ever they may go.

    You say you like family trips?  Well then how about that not so planned layoff?

    Now the same scenario applies to children of illegal immigrants, these children did not have a choice in the matter, these children did not just one day decided to break any laws, and yet we punish them all the same.

    Why not instead give children a chance to prove themselves worthy of being legal citizens?  Why not come up with a piece of legislation that would ensure that if the following criteria is met then one could one day be legal:

        A.     Have no criminal record;

        B.     Graduate from a U.S. High School;

        B.     Attend two years of college, or;

        C.     Serve in the military for at least two-years.

    The truth is we do have legislation that would do this very thing, it is called the Dream Act.  If you are against the punishing of children for crimes they were too young to commit  then please go learn about the Dream Act and find out what you can do to support it.

    Thanks!!
